Albert Cuyp Market at the center of de Pijp

After the rave reviews in the Guardian and other UK press about de first print-release in English of Gerard Reve's "de Avonden" , a discussion has started about why none of the Dutch gay writers has ever been translated before. the late Gert Hekma, former boardrmember of the Jacob Israel de Haan foundation, has challenged me to do an English trial translation of the 1st 2 unapologetic & uncompromising Dutch homo erotic novels by De Haan. Pijpelijntjes, published in 1902 (which cost him his political carreer and job as teacher) will be sneek-previewed in januari on Delftboys.com De Haan is also the author of the text in marble on our national homomonument : in English "to friendship such a fathomless yearning":
He's in my view also the 1st and last Dutch decadent.

His 2nd novel is a terrifying story of an S&M relationship,
carried to its ultimate consequence : death and destruction.

coverart Pathologiën,
uitg. Pieter van der Velde A'dam 1981
That will hopefully be published here next month.

The first 3 pages here will bring you back to Amsterdam's atmosphere art the start of the 20th century,
and give some background on the significance of de Haan in Dutch faggot history,
and the social culture he collided with, once this first novel was published.
Then at the page of January 12th you find the link to the entirre novel in English.
while the last 4 entries of the montrh I worked on the translation offer some more imagery from those days.

don't hesitate to suck it to me with questions or suggestions / submissions.
